Madhya Pradesh home minister Babulal Gaur has drawn the ire of feminists for glorifying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “sacrifice of family life” for the service of the nation.

Madhya Pradesh home minister Babulal Gaur has drawn the ire of feminists for glorifying Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “sacrifice of family life” for the service of the nation.

Mr Gaur, while talking to mediapersons at Bareli in Rayasen district nearly 250 km from here on Thursday on the sidelines of participating in a government function, heaped praises on Mr Modi by describing him as “brahmachari (pure)”, “yogi” and “tapasvi (ascetic)”.

“He (Mr Modi) has even sacrificed his family life by deserting his wife to dedicate himself for the service of the nation,” he observed.

He also described the Modi government as “totally corruption free”, and added that not a single minister in the Union government faced graft charges in the past two years.

Women activists took strong exception to Mr Gaur’s comment on the PM, describing it as “most irresponsible”.

“Such comments are not only disrespectful to women, but also to the PM”, Anjali Alia, general secretary of Shyama Welfare Society and Neha Pawar of “Nidan”, an NGO working for the cause of women, said on Friday.

Incidentally, Mr Guar is no stranger to controversy particularly for making unpleasant remarks off and on.
