Mayawati only serves rich: Mulayam Singh Yadav

Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday lashed out at BSP president Mayawati and said that the “dalit ki beti” was serving the interests of the rich.

Mr Yadav, who was addressing a conference of Most Backward Castes at the Samajwadi headquarters here, said that Ms Mayawati had failed to serve the interests of the dalits in the state.

“We had given facilities of dalits to 17 OBCs in the state, while Mayawati had scrapped the provisions after becoming the chief minister. When we raised the matter in Delhi with the then UPA government, the Centre also supported the BSP because the UPA needed her support,” he said.

Mr Yadav said that although the BSP leader calls herself the daughter of a dalit but she works for rich. He assured the most backward caste groups he would ensure that they got facilities at par with dalits.

“We will talk to the high court and Supreme Court and put in a battery of lawyers for the issue. We will also fight in Delhi. You will progress when you all get status of dalits,” he said. He defended his birthday celebrations in Sefai and said, “Even those in constitutional posts have problems... They do not know about me. I belong to a very poor family of farmers. What problem do they have if my birthday was celebrated ”
