In a bizarre development, a student in Chhattisgarh has been barred from appearing in his post-graduate examination for reportedly refusing to take off his shoes as directed by the invigilator, the police said on Saturday.

The student, Jitendra Gupta, entered the examination centre at the Sarangarh government college in Raigarh district to write his MA final examination paper after being frisked at the entrance by the staff deployed there for the purpose on Friday.

The invigilator appointed for his examination hall distributed answer papers to all candidates in the hall including him.

The invigilator however reportedly suddenly asked Jitendra to take off his shoes, to which he protested strongly, according to the in-charge of Sarangarh police station where the student later lodged a complaint regarding the incident.

The invigilator later allegedly barred him from appearing the examination for refusing to take off his shoes, the police said.

The police tried to intervene in the matter, but the invigilator refused to yield, the police said.

Later, the student moved the local sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) seeking his intervention to allow him to reappear the examination.

The SDM has ordered a probe into the incident, the police said.
