Lucknow: Lawyers go on rampage after colleague murder

Lawyers in the high court in Lucknow went on a rampage on Wednesday to protest against the murder of their colleague on Tuesday.

Agitating lawyers, who went on a flash strike on Wednesday, set hoardings of the ruling Samajwadi Party on fire, damaged several vehicles and roadways buses and torched a police picket.

The lawyers also clashed with the staff at the health directorate, located near the high court, and hurled cold drink bottles at them.

Media persons were also targeted during the clashes. The lawyers are demanding a compensation of `20 lakhs for the kin of the deceased and immediate arrest of the accused persons.

It may be recalled that a young lawyer Shravan Kumar Varma , 38, was found dead on Tuesday in Ganeshganj area on Tuesday. The lawyer’s half naked body was found stuffed in a drain near his house. Family members have blamed a local priest and another friend of the lawyer for the murder.
