With elections for five Rajya Sabha vacancies nearing, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav is caught in a dilemma as he can pick only two nominees. Mr Yadav has to choose between his MBBS and “politically articulate” daughter Misa and wife Rabri Devi, a former Bihar chief minister.

The RJD chief, incidentally, has to make the “tough” choice at a time when reports from Bihar suggest rising crime rates, and the Opposition claiming that “jungle raj” is back in the state. Mr Yadav, sources said, has been advised by his colleagues not to send both his wife and daughter to the Rajya Sabha in the coming elections, likely in April-May this year.

Most RJD leaders want Misa Yadav to get the seat in the hope that she can counter the negative press about the party. The RJD, incidentally, has no representation in the Rajya Sa-bha at present.
