“The RJD chief had launched Misa Yadav first in politics. She lost the LS elections from Patna City to BJP’s Ram Kirpal Yadav. His two sons are occupying eminent positions in the Nitish Kumar Cabinet. The daughter has not yet been politically rehabilitated,” a senior RJD leader said.

The RJD, that staged a major comeback last year, has no representation in the RS. “The RJD chief is well aware that the RS is the most vocal space for the Opposition. Hence he wants former Union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh to go to the Upper House, which leaves only one seat for him to accommodate his family,” the leader added. The RJD, with 80 MLAs, can bag two RS seats, while another two will go into the kitty of the JD(U), that has a strength of 73. The BJP, with 58 MLAs, would bag one nomination. Mr Yadav, incidentally, is bargaining for three seats with the JD(U) but, sources said, the CM has expressed his inability to oblige. While the scales seem tilted towards Ms Misa Yadav, the RJD chief is keen on a base in New Delhi, which he could have got with his wife in the Rajya Sabha getting a large bungalow in Lutyens’ Delhi due to her stature as a former CM.

“The RJD chief is in a Catch-22 situation,” the party leader said.
