Khurshid likely to clarify stand

Union law minister Salman Khurshid is expected to clarify his stand on his controversial statement on a sub-quota for minorities. Official sources said Monday night there was no forward movement on this issue. “We are not doing anything... he (Khurshid) is expected make a statement shortly.”

Mr Khurshid is expected to meet the Prime Minister against the backdrop of the EC’s letter to President Pratibha Patil which was forwarded to the PM. “Every problem has a solution,” a senior Congress official said without elaborating. The Congress is against attacking the constitutional body and thus does not want to encourage this trend. Asked what are the PM’s options, another Congress official said, “Nothing, Salman Khurshid will clarify his stand saying he did not mean to criticise the EC. This is nothing but a storm in a teacup.”
Minister of state in the PMO V. Narayanasamy only said, “Two constitutional bodies ... both are seized of the matter and, therefore, I don’t want to make any comment on that.”
But, in Allahabad, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said the Congress has made it clear that “people occupying posts of responsibility should speak responsibly”.

As a self-confessed hardliner, I must admit that being a part of the team engaged in Indo-Pak Track 2 dialogue has been very interesting.
