A two-member inquiry committee, constituted by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) to look into an alleged incident of ragging at Al Qamar College of Nursing in Kalaburagi, has concluded that the alleged victim had tried to commit suicide and was not ragged.

The first-year student from Kerala had alleged that some of her seniors made her drink toilet cleaning liquid, which made her critically ill.

The inquiry committed has stated that the girl tried to commit suicide because of some family issues.

RGUHS vice-chancellor K.S. Ravindranath said that the committee visited the college and hostel and inquired with all those concerned.

“The committee has submitted its report to the university. According to the report, no ragging incident occurred either at the college or the hostel, as alleged by the student,” Dr Ravindranath said.

“The committee has pointed out that the girl was admitted to a local hospital first and was later shifted to her hometown in Kerala,” Dr Ravindranath said.
