The CBI is now scrutinising video-tapes pertaining to old interviews given by deported gangster Chhota Rajan to some news channels in connection with the murder case of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey. The agency, sources said, will interrogate Rajan immediately after completing the scrutiny of his interview.

Sources said, “The CBI will also examine the authenticity of the interview. The agency sleuths have already collected video-tapes from those news channels who had reportedly interviewed Rajan after J. Day murder case.” The CBI recently registered an FIR to probe the J. Dey murder case, the first of the 71 cases referred to the agency by the Maharashtra government involving Chhota Rajan. He is facing around 71 cases in Maharashtra, which includes the J. Dey murder case.

The murder of Mid-Day’s 56-year-old crime and investigation editor J. Dey was one of the prominent cases in which Rajan’s hand was suspected. Dey was shot dead by motorcycle-borne shooters on June 11, 2011 at 3.30 pm, allegedly at the behest of Rajan. Four persons on two motorcycles fired at least four to five rounds at Dey, who was also riding a bike, from behind near Spectra Building at D Mart in Hiranandani area of Powai. After the attack, he was rushed to nearby Hiranandani hospital where he was declared brought dead.
