J&K: Religious teacher arrested for assaulting minor student

Srinagar: A teacher has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a minor student at a religious seminary in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, the police said on Thursday.

In a video clip widely circulated on social media, an 8-year-old boy can be seen hung upside down and physically assaulted by a 'maulvi' (religious teacher) of a local Dargah (seminary), a police spokesman said here.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of RPC and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2013.

The accused teacher identified as Molvi Mushtaq Ahmed Dar, a resident of Batpora Tangmarg, has been arrested, the spokesman said. He said further investigation into the matter was on.
