Maoists kidnap two villagers in Odisha

Koraput: Suspected Maoists allegedly abducted two villagers in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Saturday night, the police said on Sunday.

According to reports, the Maoists have kidnapped two villagers from Mahupadar village under Mathili police station limits on suspicion of being “police informers”.

Sources said, “Nearly four to five Maoists came to the village in police uniform and abducted the duo.” Security personnel have launched a massive search operation in the area to rescue the kidnapped villagers.

In another incident, the Odisha police along with the CRPF personnel destroyed a Maoist camp in a gunbattle with the red rebels in Rourkela on Saturday night.

In a joint operation by the Rourkela police and the CRPF personnel at Lunga forest in Mahulpada, a few Maoists belonging to the Sagar gang were reportedly injured. Over 20 Maoists managed to flee from the camp during the encounter. The police seized 200 live bullets, explosives and other items from the spot.
