Hubby kills woman Hyderabad: A woman was allegedly killed for dowry in Dundigal. The victim, Sukanya, 21, was beaten up and forced to consume poison by her husband. Sukanya is a native of East Godavari, and had married one Shankar Rao about five months ago. Sukanya’s parents had given Rs 1.5 lakh, and gold ornaments as dowry. According to a complaint lodged by Sri Devi, the victim’s mother, it was from the second or third month of their marriage, Eshawar started harassing her for additional dowry. He would often come home drunk and pick up fight with her on petty issues. In that inebriated state of his, he would also physically assault her at times. She was depressed over her marriage. As usual, he picked up a fight with her even on Thursday night. He argued with her on the same issue and after which he called upon Sukanya’s parents at around 8pm, and asked them to come over to their place as he needs to discuss. It was while, her parents were to leave, they received a call from him again late in the night at around 11.30pm, stating that Sukanya has committed suicide by consuming poison. Her parents rushed to the city. According to V.Bhaskar, inspector of police Dundigal, Sukanya’s mother in her complaint suspected her death and said Eshwar may have killed her by forcefully making her to consume poison. There were also marks of physical assault on the victim’s body, which strengthened the suspicion. She was shifted to the hospital where she died under treatment. “Based on a complaint lodged, a case under section 304 B for dowry death has been registered and is being investigated. Though there is a suspicion over her death, and the family alleged it’s a murder, we have registered a dowry death case here because, the intensity and punishment for dowry death is severe as it is considered a grave offence", the inspector said. The body was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital mortuary and was later handed over to the family after a post mortem on Friday. The case is being investigated. About 350 gram gold worth `10 lakh was recovered from them. The victims are senior citizens and had appointed Lakshmi about six months ago. The cops recovered the gold. Lakshmi was working at the house of Arjun Lal, 60, and his bed ridden wife aged 55 years is bed ridden for some time. Lakshmi was appointed about six months ago just to take care of her and do things like massaging, washing and so on. According to P.Sattaiah, inspector of police, Shahinayatgunj, since the couple stays alone in the house, and there are no frequent visitors to the house. The almirah keys are also placed on the table next to the old woman’s bed. Lakshmi who observed that things are pleasant for her to commit the offence, took the keys which was readily available on the table when the old woman was asleep and opened the almirah which was in the next room and committed theft of about 250 grams of gold ornaments from it. “Arjun lal who recent opened the almirah found the ornaments missing and strongly suspected Lakshmi, their maid on this. He lodged a complaint at the police station on Wednesday. Following the complaint, Lakshmi was arrested and it was during an interrogation that she confessed the crime. We recovered the gold ornaments intact.” Sattaiah said. A case was registered and she was sent to the judicial custody. Two Bangladeshis held for kidnap attempt Two Bangladeshis held for kidnap attempt Bengaluru: Two Bangladesh nationals were arrested by Elec tronics City police on Friday for allegedly trying to kidnap a nine-month-old baby at Bettadasanapura. The accused have been identified as Raja (21) and Saleem, 20. The duo had come to the city about three years ago. According to the police, they tried to kidnap Krish, a nine-month-old boy on Friday morning. His parents Kamalesh and Rinku hail from West Bengal. The incident happened in the morning and Kamalesh was away and Rinku had left the kid in front of her house to play. The accused, posing as rag pickers, kidnapped the baby and hid it inside a gunny bag. “Rinku noticed it and raised an alarm alerting her neighbours, who chased the duo and caught them. The locals tied them to an electric pole and thrashed them, before handing over to the police. They do not have passports,” police said. The police suspect that they kidnapped children and sold them to those who run beggary racket. “The duo has confessed that they kidnapped and left the children in isolated places, after taking away their jewels. We are investigating whether they were involved in any criminal activities earlier,” the police added. Electronics City police have registered a case. The arrested, identified as Sharafuddeen (22) of Vazhakkala in Ernakulam, C.P. Shabeer (30) of Thiroor in Malappuram, Abdul Lays (23) of Pattimatom in Ernakulam and Linson Peter (36) of Vaduthala in Ernakulam, pledged as many as 16 cars from different parts of Ernakulam district after taking it from people under the guise of using them for tour packages. According to police, the gang used to take luxury cars for rent as they fetched them more money when pledged. There are even people who took cars on pledge from this gang, returned for rent and later being cheated. We have recovered 11 cars from the gang. The rest of the cars will be found soon,” said Sathar, the sub inspector of Thrikkakara police. The cops also hinted that the gang was using cars for sex trafficking and smuggling. “Shabeer is an accused in the Paravur sex case. He absconded after coming out of jail on bail. It was he who started the car fraud,” the police added.
