The talk of a “Kamaraj Plan” has already begun in the Congress after it lost power in Assam and Kerala and failed to improve in Tamil Nadu or defeat the Trinamul Congress with the help of the Left in West Bengal.

Under this “plan”, party officials would offer their resignation to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi to facilitate her in reconstituting the organisation before the electoral battle in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the coming months. However, this will be a cosmetic exercise because the party always gets votes in the name of the “high command” and not on regional leaders, a section of the Congress felt.

Late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had undertaken this exercise through then heavyweight K. Kamaraj under the plan”.

Currently, the Congress is in power in three key states — Karnataka, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh — besides a couple of states in the Northeast where its main rival is going to be the BJP.

Replacing some AICC general secretaries and PCC chiefs will not revive the party unless Mrs Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi revive the killer instinct in the party workers and re-connect them with the people.

“If the TMC can win elections on its own in West Bengal, why can’t we revive in MP, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat,’ they asked.
