Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that achchhe din (good days) for the Congress will come when the farmers in the country see better days.

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said on Monday that achchhe din (good days) for the Congress will come when the farmers in the country see better days.

Mounting a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Gandhi said that the latter’s promise of achchhe din had turned into a joke.

Mr Gandhi on Monday was undertaking a padyatra in Saharanpur during which he interacted with sugarcane farmers of the area and listened to their problems.

He said that the Prime Minister was busy travelling around the world but had no time to attend to the problems of the farmers in the country. “Modiji is touring London but Rahul Gandhi has come here to listen to your problems. I want to tell you that we are with you. The Congress is standing with you and will die and keep standing with you,” he said.

He said that it was the Congress-led UPA that had changed people’s lives with the MNREGA, the biggest employment scheme in the world. “We do not want such an India where the poor, the farmers and oppressed are unhappy. We do not want a suit-boot government. We want that India should be of the poor, labourers and small people,” he said.

He said that when the Lok Sabha elections were held, a lot of people supported Mr Modi. He claimed that he will change India but nothing has happened so far.
