Combating 'black money' is our shared priority: Modi in Switzerland

Modi said Switzerland will support India's membership to Nuclear Suppliers Group.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi who arrived in Geneva on Monday on the third leg of his five-nation tour, held delegation level-talks with Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann to deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The Prime Minister raised the issue of black money stashed by Indians in Swiss banks. He also sought Switzerland's support for India's membership of the 48-member Nuclear Suppliers Group as it is a key member of the elite grouping.

" Combating the menace of "black money" and tax evasion is also our shared priority. We have both agreed to support each other for our respective bids for the non-permanent membership of the UNSC. I am thankful to the President for Switzerland's understanding & support for India's membership of the NSG," said Modi.

Modi attended a business round-table in Geneva which was graced by the who's who of the corporate world. Big names like Lafarge, Nestle, Roche were at the meet which is aimed at expanding economic ties.

"Our agenda will be to expand economic and investment ties. I will meet Indian scientists working at CERN. India takes pride in their contribution to exploring new frontiers of science in the service of humanity," Modi had earlier said.

Modi, who visited Afghanistan on Saturday, arrived here after his two-day visit to Qatar during which he held talks with the leadership there on a host of issues.

Ahead of his five-nation tour, Modi had described Switzerland as India's key partner in Europe.

From here, Modi will travel to the US and then to Mexico before returning to India.
