As the Assembly elections inch closer, the Akhilesh government in Uttar Pradesh in making a conscious effort to reach out to the people and make an assessment of ground realities. UP chief secretary Alok Ranjan will spend a night in one of the villages in Bundelkhand next week to get a feedback from the locals. This will be the first time that a chief secretary level officer will be spending a night in a village. According to official sources, Mr Ranjan will make a night halt in villages in Mahoba and Banda on January 13 and 14. “The idea is to get a feedback from the common man about the reach of developmental projects and welfare schemes. The chief secretary will also inspect the progress of developmental projects in the area,” said the official spokesman. The chief secretary will also interact with the people on the issue of law and order and the problems they face while dealing with the cops. It may be recalled that UP CM Akhilesh Yadav, last year, had asked all principal secretaries, commissioners, district magistrates and police chiefs to spend nights in villages.
