BJP: PM should sack Khurshid
The BJP on Monday demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should immediately sack law minister Salman Khurshid, who is “unrepentant” over his remarks regarding Election Commission censuring him on minorities’ sub-quota. The party also asked why PM was taking so much time to act on EC’s complaint against Mr Khurshid. The party also said that the episode has “fully exposed” the Congress.
“Practically, even after a week, Salman Kurshid is unrepentant and is actually defiant. This is an example of votebank politics, communal politics, corrupt politics that denigrates all constitutional authority,” said BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar. The party demanded that Mr Kurshid should resign immediately and if he fails to do so, PM should sack him forthwith.
“Kurshid cannot continue as law minister and make a mockery of law. We will continue to oppose this vociferously,” Mr Javadekar said.
Taking a dig at the PMO for “not taking action against erring ministers,” Mr Javadekar said “The Prime Minister’s Office is in silent mode. It kept defending A. Raja and Dayanidhi Maran for as long as one year. It is now protecting home minister P. Chidambaram.”
Condemning the “utterances” of Mr Kurshid and his “adamant” attitude, the Bharatiya Janata Party said, “Nobody expects that Congress will do any justice..It has insulted the constitutional bodies. Congress is playing dirty politics for political gains.”
The BJP insisted that if Mr Kurshid feels so strongly about the reservation issue, he should quit the Union Cabinet and then raise the issue. Lashing out at the Union law minister for his spat with the EC, Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari on Monday termed him as a “lawless” minister.
“He (Khurshid) is not the law minister but lawless minister,” Mr Gadkari told an addressing an election meeting in Chandauli.
