In a bid to woo first-time-voters in the national capital, BJP leaders are personally writing letters to the voters in the age group of 18-19 years in their respective constituencies. Notably, Delhi, which goes to polls this December, has 3.49 lakh first-time-voters.

In a bid to woo first-time-voters in the national capital, BJP leaders are personally writing letters to the voters in the age group of 18-19 years in their respective constituencies. Notably, Delhi, which goes to polls this December, has 3.49 lakh first-time-voters. In these letters, the leaders are pointing towards the importance of their vote and also emphasising to vote for the BJP to dislodge the Congress-led government in the capital. The party leader said that the move has come following the ideas of BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi wherein he encouraged the youths to vote in the crucial elections. Senior BJP councillor Subhash Arya, who has sent letters to over 3,500 voters in his constituency of Rajouri Garden, has initiated the idea by writing personal letters to the first-time voters. Arya, who has been elected thrice to the municipal corporation, is also eyeing an Assembly ticket from Rajouri Garden. Mr Arya, in his letter, is emphasising upon the need of the voters to cast their vote. He is telling them that the value of their vote is equivalent to that of the President of India and that even one vote could prove decisive in determining the future of the country. Mr Arya, in his letter, wrote, “It is a pleasure to inform you that you have been enrolled in the voters list under Rajouri Garden constituency. You will be, for the first time, exercising your right to vote in the elections for the Delhi Legislative Assembly. The vote of a common citizen is at par with that of the President of India. Your one vote will contribute towards a bright future of the country.” Calling letter-writing as a productive idea, a senior BJP leader said that the party would direct all the councillors to follow the same. “Over a dozen councillors have already consented to write letters to the youths. Within a fortnight, all 155 BJP councillors will write personally to the first-time-voters. However, in municipal wards represented by other parties, letters will be sent by Delhi BJP office signed by senior leaders or state unit president,” the senior leader added. In the letter, the BJP leader also highlighted the failure of the UPA and the Congress government.
