Azam Khan writes to Aamir, SP invites him to UP

Senior UP minister Mohd Azam Khan has written a three page letter to actor Aamir Khan, who is in the eye of a storm over his statements on intolerance in India.

The actor had said at a function that his wife contemplated leaving India due to “growing intolerance” in the country.

The Samajwadi Party, on the other hand, has invited the actor to come and live in Uttar Pradesh. “The Samajwadi Party has always shown respect to artists and we promise full protection if Aamir Khan wants to live in UP. We will ensure full protection to him and his family,” said senior UP minister Shivpal Singh Yadav.

In a three-page letter, Mr Khan said that Aamir Khan was a great and gifted actor and that “he should not think on these lines as India was for all and that some comments from some people cannot be construed as opinion of the majority”. He also urged the actor to feel for himself how such words and acts would be hurting the millions of commoners who belong to the same community.

Mr Khan asked the actor not to be demoralised with the conditions prevailing in the country, as millions of Muslims had chosen to stay back in India instead of going to Pakistan.

He ended his letter with a couplet that says, “Na tera hai, na mera hai, Yeh Hindustan sabka hai /Nahi samjhi gayi yeh baat, to nuqsaan sabka hai.”

Later, talking to reporters, Mr Khan said, “If Aamir Khan’s wife, who is a Hindu, fears for the future of her children in the country, what about those who do not have anyone for support ”
