A 32-year-old cricket coach has been arrested by the Chandanagar police for allegedly sexually harassing boys who would come for coaching at the PJR Stadium.

Salam Bin, a native of Barcas in the Old City, had been working as a cricket coach at PJR Stadium in Chandanagar. More than 100 boys under 16 years of age were being coached by him.

Since summer holidays are going on, the coaching camp is conducted from 5.30 am till 8 pm every day.

“During breaks, he would take one of the boys and force him to have intercourse. If he resisted, Salam would back off and request him not to reveal it to anyone,” said Chandanagar inspector N. Tirupathi Rao.

Salam sexually exploited many boys in this fashion in the last year. Six boys have approached the police till date.

The latest incident had taken place three months ago, when Salam harassed a 16-year-old boy.

His parents came to know of the incident on Tuesday and lodged a complaint.

A case of unnatural sex and attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment and charges under the POCSO Act was registered. Salam Bin was arrested and produced in court.
