The shifting of the administration from Hyderabad to Amaravati will involve the shifting of around one lakh files to the capital region, and the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to call for tenders to carry out this task.

There are about 32 departments and around 450 sections in the secretariat. There are also 89 heads of department offices in Hyderabad. The shift will include computers and other electronic equipment. Valuable furniture will be left behind.

The state government has to ensure that no files are missed. Out of 32 departments, the general administration , finance, revenue, irrigation, panchayat raj and municipal administration have a greater number of sections and a majority of files between them.

Files apart, government orders too have to be shifted, these being of two types, manuscript and routine.

The government has to preserve MS GOs for 20 years and RT GOs for five. The government issues about 100 GOs a year relating to all departments.

The files will be shifted section-wise, the government selecting one employee for each section, his responsibility being to note down the number of files while packing at Hyderabad and ensuring that all those pertaining to that section were intact while unloading them at the capital. The state government introduced an e-file system recently that has about 40,000 files belonging to all the departments.
