The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the income-tax department to reopen the 2001 case against Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan over his earning for the television quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati

Refusing to grant relief to Mr Bachchan, the SC upheld the notice issued by the income-tax department in 2001 for recovery of Rs 1.66 crore as taxes from his earning from KBC. In 2008, the HC had allowed I-T exemption of 30 per cent on Mr Bachchan’s total income of Rs 50.92 crore from the show. The HC had accepted the actor’s plea that being an artiste he should be given tax relief.
