NABARANGPUR: In Odisha’s Nabarangpur, a pregnant woman delivered a baby on roadside. She was being carried to an ambulance waiting a few kilometres away due to no road connectivity in the district here on Saturday night. The incident was reported from remote Tarajodi village under Jharigaon block in the district.

The tribal woman, identified as Kaushalya Santa, wife of Manasaye Santa complained for having labour pain on Saturday and the ambulance was called.

Upon getting the call from the family, local health worker Nayana Santa rushed to the spot. However, the ambulance stopped two kilometres away as it could not travel further due to the poor road condition in the village.

With no other option, the family members carried Kaushalya on cot through the muddy and uneven road for two kilometres, during which, Kaushalya delivered a baby on roadside, it was said. Both Kaushalya and her newborn were later shifted to Icchapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in the ambulance and their condition was said to be stable.
