Lucknow: They may be reading more into it than is necessary, but Congressmen in Allahabad are elated over the fact that superstar Amitabh Bachchan has started following top Congress leaders on the Twitter.

The local party leaders see this as a thawing of relations between Bachchan and the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Posters expressing gratitude to Bachchan have started appearing in Allahabad with the tagline “Aa ab laut chalen” and “Aabhar” written boldly on them.

The posters have photographs of late Rajiv Gan-dhi, Bachchan and Congress president Rahul Gandhi in the background of Sangam, the holy confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.

The poster also has a couple from Bachchan’s film saying “Bane chahe dushman zaana hamara, salamat rahe dostana hamara” — an obvious reference to the close friendship between the Bachchan and the Gandhi family.

On the top of the poster, there are a series of photographs from the 1984 Lok Sabha elections when Bachchan contested from Allahabad.

Haseeb Ahmad, district general secretary of the Congress in Allahabad, said that party workers welcomed the fact that the superstar had started following top party leaders on the social media.

Congress workers now hope that Bachchan may even agree to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Allahabad. Others, however, dismiss this as a “far-fetched dream”.
