Lucknow: The popular 1090 Women Power Line, which was set up by former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav for women in distress, will now have a dedicated cell for children too. The cell will become operational next month.

The idea for a dedicated cell for children was mooted by UP DGP Sulkhan Singh after the recent murder of a schoolboy in Ryan School in Gurugram.

The cell will address problems being faced by children including physical assault, sexual harassment, bullying, ragging, domestic violence, and cyber-bullying.

The IG 1090 Helpline, Navneet Sikera, said that NGO ‘Save the Children’ has been asked to prepare the standard operating procedure for the cell.

The official said that experts working against the harassment of children would hold counselling sessions in schools. They will first identify children facing harassment and then counsel them. He said there would be special focus on communicating with introvert children who normally do not share their problems.

The experts will also address children’s problems through letters and emails. The cell will cater to children across UP and anyone who finds a child in distress can report the matter to 1090 helpline.
