Bhopal: A ruling BJP MLA in Madhya Pradesh was on Friday booked for thrashing a cop in a police station in Dewas district in MP.

The legislator from Bagli Assembly constituency in MP, Champalal Dewda, was caught in a CCTV installed in Uday Nagar police station beating police constable Santosh Ivanati late on Thursday night for restraining his nephew to interact with two rape accused, held in police custody, without authorisation, the police said.

The police booked the MLA and three of his accomplishes under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code in connection with the incident, investigator S. Raghuvamsi said.

According to the police, the MLA’s nephew along with some of his friends had barged into the police station and started interacting with two rape accused held in lock-up.

He alleged that the nephew also took a water bottle from one of the rape accused raising suspicion among the cops present in the police station.

The police constable tried to restrain him from interfering in their works leading to heated exchanges between them.
