'Chennai Central Station to be renamed after great MGR': Modi in TN

Connecting with the people of Tamil Nadu, PM Modi in his speech praised the culture and language.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Wednesday laid the foundation stone of various projects in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.

Modi shared the stage with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and other prominent leaders.

In one of the biggest announcement in his address, Modi said that Central Government decided to rename the Chennai Central station after the great MGR, referring to the former chief minister M. G. Ramachandran.

Connecting with the people of Tamil Nadu, PM Modi in his speech praised the culture and language.

"The beautiful language, Tamil, is one of the oldest classical languages in the world," he said.

In an appealing speech to the audience, Modi said, "the government is also seriously thinking about ensuring that flights to and from Tamil Nadu have in-flight announcements in Tamil language."

Addressing the issue of frequent detention of fishermen, Modi said that almost nineteen hundred fishermen from Sri Lanka have returned home to Tamil Nadu.

Emphasizing on the challenges in bringing the fisherman, Modi lauded its government's effort in repatriating the detained people.

Modi said, "A few of them were also facing the death sentence but, we ensured with the cooperation of the Government of Sri Lanka that they returned to India."

Modi also took the dais to slam the Congress party through Article 356.

PM Modi said, "Even the DMK has been the victim of Congress hatred for regional aspirations."

While speaking at the rally, Modi lashed out at the opposition parties over Balakot strike.  

Modi said, "they neither want a strong India nor a strong-armed force".

DMDK skipped Modi’s rally as actor Vijayakanth’s DMDK is in talks with the AIADMK for an alliance.

Earlier, Modi visited Karnataka’s Kalaburagi and laid down the foundation of Bharat Petroleum’s Raichur depot.
