To counter the “growing popularity” of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav among youth, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has decided to hold a massive “Chhatra Hunkar” rally in Lucknow on November 23.

ABVP leaders said they are planning to make youth aware of how they are being “duped” by the Akhilesh government. Talking to this newspaper, an ABVP functionary said they will start the campaign with the slogan “Aap hame samarthan de, Hum aapko parivartan denge”, and that a senior BJP leader will address youth during the rally.

“The Akhilesh government has fooled the student community. The government distributed laptops in its first year and then conveniently changed the rules, which deprived a vast majority of students from the benefit.”

Tablet computers were promised, but never given, to students who passed high school.

The state government promised jobs but nothing has happened, said the ABVP leader, adding that the student wing aims at cashing in on the disenchantment with the state government.
