2G: Trai begins process to sell spectrum

Kick-starting the process of the sale of licences cancelled by the Supreme Court, Trai on Friday issued a consultation paper on “allocation of spectrum in 2G band in 22 service areas by auction”.

Trai, which has asked stakeholders to send suggestions and comments by February 15, said that keeping in view the time-bound nature of the exercise, no extension of time would be granted.
Based on suggestions received, Trai is expected to come out with a consultation paper. It will again place the consultation paper for public views and will only then come out with its final recommendations.
