New Delhi:

Delhi gang-rape convict Vinay Sharma, one of the men sentenced to death for the rape and murder of a 23-year-old student on a bus in Delhi on December 16, 2012, allegedly attempted suicide in Tihar jail on Thursday.

According to reports, Vinay Sharma tried hanging himself after consuming pills. He has been admitted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital in the national capital.

Last year, he had demanded more security alleging that he had been beaten up by other inmates.

Six men - one of them a juvenile - were found guilty of the gangrape and murder which shocked the nation’s conscience and led to large scale protests in the national capital.

In March 2013, convict Ram Singh, the driver of the bus in which the woman was assaulted, was found hanging in Tihar jail.
