Rohith Vemula’s father wants to know truth

The father of Hyderabad Central University research scholar Rohith Vemula has sought to know who murdered Rohith and why. “Dalit or not, Rohith was a research scholar and a merit student. Everyone — including the vice-chancellor, faculty, members of the Ambedkar Students Association (ASA), ABVP and others who are raking up the wrong side of the issue — must be questioned,” said Mr Mani Kumar at a press conference held in Vijayawada to announce the “Rohith Nyaya Porata Committee”, which is demanding a judicial inquiry by a sitting judge.

Dismissive of the sympathies from Mr Rahul Gandhi, Mr Arvind Kejriwal and other national leaders leaders and students’ associations, Mr Kumar said that the truth behind his death should be revealed and the culprits punished. He wanted the suicide letter to be fully revealed as it would explain why Rohith alone died when five students had been expelled from the campus.
