An angry doctor opened fire at his business partner inside a parked car at Himayatnagar on Monday following a quarrel over a partnership issue on Laurel Hospital at Madhapur they had started on January 1.

Dr Shashi Kumar fired from point blank range but the bullet nicked his partner Dr Uday Kumar’s left ear, causing an injury. Another partner Dr Sai Kumar, who was also inside the car, escaped wthout injuries, the police said.

Soon after the shooting, Dr Shashi Kumar, a resident of Sainikpuri, fled the area. The police have formed special teams to apprehend him and cops suspect that he escaped in his car which was parked a few kilometers.

Dr Uday Kumar was rushed to Apollo Hospital at Hyderguda.

Deputy Commissioner of police V.B. Kamalasan Reddy said Dr Kumar used a .32 mm pistol for which he had a licence. The police suspect the accused intended to kill both his partners but could not pull it off.

The Narayanguda police has booked a case against Dr Kumar for attempt to murder. The firing occurred inside the victim’s Volkswagen car at 4.30 pm on street number 6 in Himayatnagar.

Dr Kumar had invited the other two partners for a meeting in the evening. They went to restaurant in Himayatnagar but did not get a place to sit. They then took the car and parked at the street side to talk.

“Uday was driving and Sai was sitting in the front seat. The accused, who was sitting in the back seat, got angry during the discussion and started a quarrel. He suddenly took out the pistol and fired at the victim,” said a police official from Naraynaguda.

Dr Shashi Kumar was angry because he felt that he was being sidelined in the business by his two partners and wanted his investment to be returned. “Shashi Kumar invested up to Rs 75 lakh and the other two partners had invested up to Rs 3 crore. Udai and Sai became managing director and CEO of the new 100-bedded hospital respectively. Shashi Kumar was kept only as a director among several other NRIs who had also invested in the hospital. He had earlier complained that he was not being given due importance when it came to management matters,” said the DCP.
