Renegade Naxalite, gangster and extortionist Mohammed Nayeemuddin was shot dead on Monday morning at Shadnagar in Mahbubnagar during a joint operation by the Dichpally police of Nizamabad, a special team from the Telangana state police, the Mahbubnagar police and the Greyhounds. The encounter followed a tip-off about his arrival.

The police said Nayeemuddin was on his way to visit a friend at Millennium Township in an SUV. Cornered by cops, he opened fire. In a 10-minute shootout, Nayeem sustained multiple bullet injuries on his chest and died on the spot. Senior police officials from TS Police said he was carrying an AK-47 rifle, from which he opened fire on cops.

Nayeemuddin was wanted by the CBI in the sensational IPS official K.S. Vyas’s murder case as also the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case besides a horde of murder and extortion cases.

Sources said, the police teams received a tip-off on his planned visit and quietly evacuated the Millennium Township on Sunday night. The team from Nizamabad was pursuing a tip-off from State Intelligence Bureau while investigating a recent extortion case booked in Dichpally police station. A senior police official narrated the scene at the shootout between 8.30 am and 9 am.
