Punjab & Sind Bank emerge champions

Punjab & Sind Bank pipped Punjab National Bank 2-1 in the final of the 52nd Nehru senior men’s hockey tournament to lift the title at Shivaji Stadium in the capital on Wednesday.

Damandeep Singh drew first blood in the third minute for Punjab National Bank. Vikramjit Singh (5th) was quick to pull off the equaliser for Punjab & Sind Bank as scores were level till the first half hooter.

In the second half, both teams fought tooth and nail but failed to score till Parvinder Singh found the back of the net in the 58th minute and Punjab & Sind Bank boys held on to the lead till the final whistle.

The winners took home a purse of Rs 2 lakh while the runners-up received Rs 1 lakh. Parvinder was named best player of the match.
