PSB thrash MPH Academy, Air India win

Action from the Group D match between Punjab & Sind Bank and MP Hockey Academy in the Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup in Bhopal on Monday. PSB won 7-2.

Air India Sports Promotion Board edged past Comptroller & Auditor General of India 3-2, while Punjab & Sind Bank thrashed Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 7-2 in Group D on Day 6 of the Obaidullah Khan Heritage Hockey Cup in Bhopal on Monday evening.

In the final Group A encounter, CAG took a lead as early as the 9th minute through a penalty corner conversion by Azam Baig. CAG resisted Air India for the majority of the period before Joga Singh’s 30th minute strike drew parity. In the second half, Air India controlled the pace of the game and soon went ahead via Arjun Sharma’s conversion in the 48th minute. Janma Majhi scored the winner in the 70th minute to seal a semi-final berth for Air India.

Meanwhile, Punjab & Sind Bank trumped MPHA 7-2 in the second encounter of the day. Sukhjeet Singh (31th, 51st) and Karamjit Singh (55th, 67th) scored a brace each for PSB, while Akram Iqbal (38th) and Faisal Aziz (68th) scored for Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Air India Sport Promotion Board and Railway Sports Promotion Board are the four semi-finalists.
