Guru Harkrishan Public School, Nanak Piao (Delhi) and NCC Directorate (Red) were declared joint winners after a 3-3 draw in the final of the 44th Nehru junior hockey tournament at Shivaji Stadium in the capital on Saturday.

The winners shared a purse of Rs 80,000 each.Paramjeet Singh opened the scoring in the third minute for GHPS before Tikei Kujur struck in the 12 minute to pull NCC level. Sanjay Xalco extended the lead for NCC in the 18 minute but Sumeet Pal Singh make sure that GHPS ended the first half on level terms.

In the second half, both teams fought neck-and-neck. Mathadius Kullu (52nd) sounded the board for NCC but Paramjeet converted the penalty in 66th minute to complete his brace.

In the senior section which started on the day, Bhopal’s MP Academy became the first team to go out of the tournament after losing 2-6 to BSF (Jalandhar) in the knock-out round.

Hatinder Singh (12th, 17th, 50th, 64th) shone on the day with four goals for the winners while Sanjeeva Kumar (4th) and Lawrence (46th) struck once. Vikash Choudhary (35th) and Izhar Qureshi (37th) sounded the boards for the Bhopal side.
