New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, also the home ground of the Indian Super League’s Delhi Dynamos, will be one of the venues hosting next year’s Fifa Under-17 World Cup matches.

The capital on Sunday was given the green light to host the U-17 Cup by a high-level delegation of football’s world governing body.

The host city of the 20110 Commonwealth Games thus became the fourth venue to be ratified to host the U-17 Cup after Kochi, Navi Mumbai and Goa.

A 13-member Fifa delegation together with 10 members of the Local Organising Committee carried out an inspection to ascertain the readiness of the city to host matches and training sessions at the prestigious tournament in 2017.

The capital city’s stadium received the go-ahead after the team inspected the pitch and training facilities and all assurances were given by the facility owners that renovations would be completed before March 2017, including two training sites in the main Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium Complex.
