Three more Marseille fans were handed prison sentences on Tuesday for their parts in violence surrounding the Ligue 1 clash against Lyon in September.

Three more Marseille fans were handed prison sentences on Tuesday for their parts in violence surrounding the Ligue 1 clash against Lyon in September.

The three fans, aged between 18 and 25, were all given two-month suspended sentences and banned from attending football matches for a year.

The 18-year-old, who had hoped to join the army, was sentenced for throwing a banger at police before the match.A 19-year-old was found to have brandished a flare while the 25-year-old was found guilty of insulting police officers.

All three also copped a 300-euro ($ 319) fine.Back in September, three other Marseille fans were given prison sentences of between four and six months for their parts in the violence that marred the 1-1 draw between the two sides.

The match at Marseille’s Stade Velodrome had to be stopped for 20 minutes as home fans threw objects onto the field, including bottles and cups, with Lyon leading 1-0 at the time.

Before the game, some fans had also thrown objects at police, including stones and glass.Marseille faces Groningen in their Europa League match on Froday.
