Lakme Fashion Week’s 2016 Winter-Festive extravaganza was kick-started by prolific designer Tarun Tahiliani in Mumbai. The showstopper for the top-billed opening night was Kangana Ranaut, who sashayed down the ramp in her inimitable style, clicking selfies with the designer while she was at it. Tahiliani showcased an earthy collection for the season, with colours like maroon, charcoal, black and deep blue being the highlights of his pieces. Inspired by the works of renowned sculptor, Mrinalini Mukherjee, Tarun channeled the spirit of the late artist’s penchant for natural material such as hemp and bronze, in it. Models sashayed in textured handloom fabrics, combined with contemporary silhouettes with cascade and cowl drapes on gilets, capes, concept saris, dresses and crochet using chenille yarns. Showstopper Kangana made heads turn in a maxi black satin skirt paired with a black top that was enhanced with a red embellished jacket.
