Designers Varun Bahl and Gaurav Gupta presented a very unconventional side of bridal sartorial on the fourth day of FDCI India Couture Week. Varun gave a floral touch with a versatile colour palette in his collection, “Vintage Garden”, while Gaurav’s collection, “Scape Song”, was inspired by fluid structure and the landscapes.

Ace designer Varun Bahl with his floral prints attempted to reinvent heritage silhouettes for contemporary Indian women in this year’s couture week collection. Varun highlighted the elegance of florals in his creation and it complemented very well with the tropical motifs in his luxurious line. According to the designer, the floral motifs have been deliberately kept light-weight as they go with his vision of presenting traditional outfits which are rich in craftsmanship without weighing down the outfit.

The designer used fabrics like silk, georgette, chiffon and net. The colour palette ranged from soft pastels like pistachio, blue and pale pink to stronger tones like mustard, fuchsia and black. Talking about the collection, Varun said, “My bride is confident and someone who loves easy clothing. The silhouettes are heavily embroidered but very light to wear. I have introduced new length for tops and paired them with skirts.”

Actor Randeep Hooda, who attended the show, was awe-stuck by designer Varun Gupta’s line. The Sarbjit actor said, “I loved his collection. It is for the modern groom who wants to try something interesting. It was good fun and I would certainly try wearing those floral prints.”

Known for his offbeat and edgy collection, designer Gaurav Gupta presented an entire line of collection with Swarovski crystals. The line was full of intricate embroidery with off-shoulder dresses. His collection featured ballgowns, dramatic-structured gowns, sari gowns, sari drapes and unusual patterened saris. “The modern-age brides are young and fresh. They like everything that is unusual and this collection fits the bill,” said the designer. “In this line, I have tried to present a mix of modern amorphous architectural forms in vintage renditions of pearls and tassels with multilayered scaping skirts and sculpted corseted blouses,” the designer added.

Mirzya actress Saiyami Kher was the showstopper for the designer. She wore an off-shoulder embellished grown. “This is the first time I am walking on the ramp for any designer and I feel very beautiful in his dress,” said the actress and added, “I was a little nervous backstage but Gaurav helped me a lot. We were practicing my walk backstage.”
