Eye for graphics

For the lover of a statement eye, the fall 2015 runways have provided no shortage of options. Painted in shades of cobalt, emerald, black and white, the looks came in every shape and texture. Graphic eyeliner is one of my favourite things to do this season. It has the power to turn a sophisticated look into a punk-rock avatar with just a few interesting twists around the line angles.

There are a few special ingredients to achieve a graphic eyeliner look — the most important of them all is a steady hand followed by a glossy eyeliner and a precision make-up brush.

Eyeliners can be taken to a new extreme with unapologetic smouldering along the top and bottom waterlines topped with “massive” amounts of mascara and “rough brushstrokes”. You can also try out colour-blocked arches of opaque eye shadows to accompany your favourite animal prints and fur accessories.

Using a stiff pointed brush, you can trace your upper and lower lash lines with a jet-black liquid, extending the lines 1/4 inch past the outer corners of your eyes (leaving a space in between). If you go out further, you’ll have a Black Swan moment.

However, you need to make sure the lines are straight — not flared up — almost like an equal sign. For those who want to take the graphic eyeliner a notch further, strong brows are back. So, have fun flaunting them along with these liner options.
