This relapse in bad health could be a severe blow to Kapil’s promotional activities lined up for the coming weeks for Firangi.

A new dimension has been added to the ongoing controversy about Kapil Sharma’s health issues. On Tuesday, he failed to show up for a recording of a comedy show with Akshay Kumar. And Kapil’s close friend and director Rajiev Dhingra blames the occult for it.

“Kapil’s health problems could be due to black magic being done on him by someone who was very close to him at one point, and with whom he’s had a falling out,” says Rajiev, refusing to name the person on record. “If I name that person, there may be ugly repercussions that I don’t want to face.”

This relapse in bad health could be a severe blow to Kapil’s promotional activities lined up for the coming weeks for Firangi. “We have events in Dubai, London and several other destinations outside India in the coming weeks,” sighs Rajiev. “But I really don’t know if we can fulfil those, given the state of Kapil’s health.”

So, what really happened with Kapil?

“He was supposed to shoot for a promotional episode of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge,” says the director. “When he didn’t turn up at the appointed time, and I couldn’t get him on the phone, I went to see him to find out what was wrong. He was shivering on the bed, and said that he was unable to go anywhere.”

The immediate future does appear bleak for the comedian-turned-actor’s movie. “I don’t think Kapil will be able to do any more promotions. But that’s okay. We are confident about our film Firangi, and sure that it will bring Kapil back in a big way. We only want him to be healthy. So much success and stardom — it seems like these didn’t suit him.”
