It’s difficult to survive in the industry, says Parineeti Chopra

While she never dreamt of being an actress, it was in her destiny. Films fell into her lap, and Parineeti Chopra became a known name overnight.

In a candid chat, the actress reveals that while people see a very rosy picture of actors, she says that industry people don’t get to enjoy a certain peace of mind.

“Our lives are as real as any other person’s,” she says. “We perform and make you feel something in our films, but our personal lives are as real as yours. People will never understand this, and the perils of our industry are on another level.”

She adds, “The kind of peace of mind that non-industry people enjoy, industry people don’t. I don’t know when that understanding will come, but I hope it does one day.”

She does understand that there’s a certain amount of competition within the industry. “I think an actor is as good as their last film, unless you have been a star for 25 years. It is difficult to survive in this industry because the competition is quite intense,” Parineeti says. “The audience today have become very choosy, and it will watch movies only if they enjoys it. So it becomes difficult to survive for everyone, and actors have to put the best foot forward to impress the audience.”

The actress has been a victim of a lot of trolling online, and she believes it can get too much at times. “You’re a human being. A little step, one flick of the hair, one gesture is scrutinised and analysed for days till your next movie comes in. It gets too much sometimes, and I think people who sit and comment on social media have nothing else to do,” the 28-year-old says.

Meanwhile, as she promotes Golmaal Again, Parineeti adds that she doesn’t exactly play Ajay Devgn’s love interest. “Once you see the film, you will understand what’s happening,” she smiles. “But to be his heroine is quite amazing. I’m a big fan of his, so I was a little intimidated at first. But he makes you feel so comfortable, that I can now treat him like a friend. Doing Neend Churai with him was special because it’s such a hit song. Kajol, his wife, is my favourite. So stepping into her shoes was amazing.”
