Ad director turned filmmaker Suresh Triveni can’t stop gushing over his leading lady Vidya Balan. The duo has come together to work on the comedy-drama project Tumhari Sulu. And there is one quality of Vidya that the director is very fond of.

Unlike, other stars, who interfere in the creative process of directors, Vidya seems to have given Suresh a complete free hand. “A director is not someone that actors should blindly follow. Our job also comprises of gathering opinions — which we don’t think as interference,” he explains. In today’s time, when some actors take liberty with this to the extent that it could be termed as interference, the actress is an exception. “Vidya doesn’t interfere at all!” he exclaims.

The director has taken a liking to the actor and asks her for opinions and ideas as well. “I call her a question bank — and her questions make you think,” he laughs.

“But, all these questions are only during the pre-production. Once she is on the set, she never questions. Her inputs have only added value to the film. It was collaboration at another level,” he adds.

A source close to the film revealed that actor Bobby Deol was the first choice to essay the role of Vidya’s husband. When asked, the director refused to divulge details. “I won’t be commenting on this. We took auditions for a long time and a lot of actors came in, but it was a very tricky character and we wanted someone with a fresher approach. Manav Kaul was not the initial choice because I felt there might be a negative shade. But once he performed there was no looking back.”

The makers had earlier announced that Sridevi would be a part of launching the new rendition of yesteryear hit song Hawa Hawai 2.0, but that didn’t happen. Suresh credits that to date issues. “There were some date issues — our dates got preponed. As a result, there was no match.”

Vidya will be seen in a fun role as a night radio jockey in Tumhari Sulu, which is slated to hit the screens this Friday.
