I wanted to make a gentle romantic film in which the conflicts are very basic and very relatable: Vipul Shah

It’s been 10 years since filmmaker Vipul Shah gave us Namaste London, a sweet film about the marriage of a London-bred NRI (Katrina Kaif) and a home-grown Punjabi (Akshay Kumar). And though he wanted to make a sequel right away, with the same pair, things didn’t end up working out as planned, and Vipul’s long-standing association with Kumar ended abruptly.

Now, he’s finally made that sequel with Arjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra — a pair much-loved by the audience, and he’s thrilled with how it has turned out. The film, Namaste England, promises to take us back to that world where dramatic complexities are created by cultural conflicts rather than emotional ones.

Its trailer shows Parineeti fleeing to London to escape the stifling patriarchal society of Punjab, and her devoted husband Arjun following her there in an attempt to bring her back.

Says Vipul, “I wanted to make a gentle romantic film in which the conflicts are very basic and very relatable.  I think I’ve succeeded in doing that.”
