With their hilarious approach, two hungry men, Rocky Singh and Mayur Sharma have been taking the television space by storm, as they guide us to food joints located in hidden bylane corners and highways across the length and breadth of the country. While we usually only get to see these hungry men eat, Rocky and Mayur have taken on an initiative with the NGO Feeding India, to ensure that no one in the country has to go to bed hungry. The country’s favourite foodies speak to us on how important it is to initiate a conversation on food wastage, and about their upcoming tour.

“Food is something that has given Rocky and I a livelihood for the past 10 years. It has given us travel, and many more experiences. Through Feeding India, we have become a part of an initiative to feed the country. Because many people aren’t aware of the fact that hunger kills more people globally than AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria put together. Unlike those diseases, hunger is something that can be eradicated. So, by just saving food that’s wasted in transportation, we can actually feed everyone who’s hungry. I think it doesn’t happen only because of the acknowledgement gap — most people think it’s such a huge problem and nothing can be done about it. So, by speaking about it, the whole idea is that we take small steps which lead to eradicating hunger,” shares Mayur.

He points out that several chefs and other people in the food space are gradually opening up to speak about food wastage, as it is a matter of concern. “I think it is important for more people to speak about the issue so we can bring about a change in laws and regulations. We’re trying to build a network of people who work in the food space, so we can all strive towards avoiding wastage. Chefs like Ritu Dalmia, Manjit Gill, Manish Mehrotra and several more, have extended their support to the Feeding India movement,” the foodies say.

The concept of not wasting food holds true even when they order a table full of food for their shoots, the duo say. “On most of our shoots, all the food we order gets eaten, because there’s always a crew of at least 10 hungry men and we make sure nothing gets wasted. And if, for some reason, there’s extra food, there’s always someone at the traffic signal who needs it. In our society, it’s very easy to make sure there’s no food wasted and there’s absolutely no excuse for wasting any meal,” Mayur affirms.
