A group of unidentified youth attacked a teach of Delhi police escorting an undertrial from Tihar jail to a court in Jind (Haryana) with red chilli powder before escaping with him near Bahadurgarh in Haryana on Saturday morning. The police party, which was caught off guard, also exchanged fire with the criminals, but they managed escape with 27-year-old prisoner, Jitender alias Gogi, and took away an MP 5 sub machine gun carried by one of the cops, said a senior police officer. “Under trial Jitender was being taken in a Haryana roadways bus to a local court in Jind in connection with a murder case registered at Narwana police station. At around 6 am, about a dozen men intercepted the bus 7-8 km ahead of Bahdurgarh and escaped with him by spraying red chilli powder in the eyes of four policemen accompanying him,” said Ashok Malik, DCP of 3rd Battalion of Delhi armed police.

The bus was intercepted by two cars that were trailing it near Parle G factory.

Over a dozen men entered the bus and with the help of four men already present inside, they sprinkled red chilli powder in the eyes of the policemen and escaped with Jitender.

One of the members of the police team fired a shot which hit the windshield of one of the cars in which the gang had arrived. The police firing was retaliated with three rounds fired by them, said Mr Malik.

They also took away a sub-machine gun belonging to one of the police personnel.

Jitender, a resident of outer Delhi’s Alipur village, had several cases of loot and murder registered against him in Delhi and Haryana, the police said.

The police had earlier announced a reward of `1 lakh for anyone providing information leading to his arrest.

Jitender was engaged in a gang war with a rival Tillu Rajpuria who hailed from his native village. Both the gangs were involved in attacking on one another and with the escape of Jitender the gang war is feared to intensify in future.

The Delhi police said Jitender was engaged in a gang war with Tillu Rajpuria from the same village.
