Woman found dead in forest in Vasant Kunj

Body of an unidentified middle-aged woman was found in a forest area of south Delhi’s Vasant Kunj on Thursday morning.

According to the police, the woman appears to be a resident of the adjoining slum cluster, but no one from her family has come forward to claim her body. The police has initiated an inquiry into the matter and her body has been preserved at a mortuary for identification.

“There are no visible injury marks on her body. There are some marks on the neck and it seems that she was strangled to death, but that will be clear once the post-mortem is conducted. We are awaiting to contact her family so that the body could be sent for a post-mortem examination,” a senior police officer said. The body was reportedly spotted by a local who had gone to the forest to relieve himself. He saw the woman lying dead and made a PCR call.

“Her clothes were intact and there were no resistance marks on her body. We do not suspect sexual abuse in the case, but we have still not ruled out any possibility. We have uploaded her details on “zipnet” (Zonal Integrated Police Network ) along with details of her belongings that were found beside her body,” a senior police officer said.

An investigator said that they have contacted the locals of the adjoining slum cluster and are recording their statements. They have also accessed CCTV footage of the areas leading to the forest but have not found anything. “We are still going through the footage that we have accessed. A case will be registered once the cause of death is clear. Investigation in the matter is on,” a senior police officer said.
