Thieves target Portuguese national

A Portuguese national became the victim of burglars who took away his bag containing cash and other valuable while he was praying at Church Centre at Gole Dak Khana on Mandir Marg on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Adilia Martins Afonso, who hails from Portuguese capital Lisbon, had come to Delhi for a vacation and was praying at Church Centre when unidentified persons stole his leather bag which contained his passport, `10,000 cash, two pens worth 200 euros, two mobile phones valued at 200 euros and six credit cards. This is the third case of a foreigner becoming victim in the capital in the past three days.
Two more foreign nationals had become the victims of motorcycle-borne snatchers in the city since last Friday. A French embassy staffer Marie-Christine Mahmoud Tozzi was targeted by motorcycle-borne snatchers near Italian embassy in Chanakyapuri on Friday, a Japanese tourist Fuki Toshimoto was targeted on Sunday evening at Aurangazeb Road. Toshimoto was injured while trying to resist the snatching bid.
Meanwhile, a Kashmiri youth Amir Basheer was arrested from Connaught Place for allegedly troubling two foreign tourists. “We have registered a case against Basheer, who hails from Srinagar, under relevant sections of Delhi Prevention of Touting and Malpractices against Tourist Act,” a senior police official said.
