The Delhi government’s directorate of education (DoE) has constituted flying squads to keep an eye on exams being conducted under “Chunauti-2018”, an initiative to improve the learning levels of students studying in 1,024 public schools.

The government has constituted 17 flying squads and identified 127 schools for centralised inspection. Twelve flying squads headed by sub-divisional magistrates and deputy directors of education have been constituted to assist them in all the revenue districts to oversee the orderly conduct of the exams, the government said. These teams shall be visiting at least 60 schools in next 10 days.

Two hundred and twenty inspections have been carried out during first term examination during the first two days of exams, according to the government.

The school education reform programme — “Chunauti 2018” — aims to enable students studying in government schools, especially Class 9, to overcome the adverse effects of the “no detention policy”.

Through this programme, the government aims to build a strong foundation among all students in reading, writing, arithmetic, bridging the gap between current learning levels and the academic demands of their class.

The first semester exams under the newly-launched project are underway for students studying in Class 6-9. Under the Chunauti-2018 project, the department has divided students into three groups — Pratibha, Nishtha and Vishwas — based on their learning levels.

Separate question papers have been set for “Nishtha” and “Pratibha” groups of students of Class 6-8, as per the syllabi. Regular classes are simultaneously being held along with the exams for “Vishwas” group of Class 9.

“Apart from multiple online circulars, all head of schools were addressed by director of education on August 5, explaining about “Chunauti-2018” and emphasising to focus on bringing children lagging in academics to a level where they can read and write fluently and effortlessly.

“The director education herself visited a number of schools and reviewed the process of implementation of Chunauti-2018 among students in classrooms and interacted directly with the teachers seeking their feedback. The regional directors conducted district-wise meetings to clarify the process of the examination in view of Chunauti 2018, and to convey it to all the head of schools of their districts,” a government statement said.

The DoE officials have made more than 100 inspections in schools in the run up to the “Chunnauti-2018” exams and during first two days of the exams. The exams started on September 19.
